Belleville’s city council chambers will soon get a new look.
It was more than 30 years ago that Belleville city hall got a facelift, opening up all four floors and giving city council chambers a new look.
Now those chambers will be renovated again providing some new technology and a better seating situation for the public.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News the idea is to maintain the historical look but modernize at the same time.

Panciuk added, “There will be more room for staff. There’s also appropriate furniture and proper accessibility requirements. We’re also going to redo the council chamber to allow for all the new technology including electronic voting. We have 30 years worth of wires that have collected but are no longer being used. We have monitors that really aren’t effective to allow for the public to see. Those are original chairs from the renovation in ’88 that are in the gallery (will be replaced).”
The $300,000 project is expected to begin the second week of July, right after the July council meeting and be completed in time for the August city council meeting.
Panciuk says if it is not completed in time, arrangements will be made for the August meeting.
