There are two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hastings and Prince Edward County and one more death related to the virus.
The Health Unit says the two new cases were contracted through close contact.
Hastings County CAO Jim Pine confirmed two of the four deaths were residents of Hastings Manor Long-Term Care Home.
HPE Public Health Unit spokesperson Karen LaRose says “they are deeply saddened that a second long-term care resident has passed away due to complications associated with COVID-19”.
She says they offer their sincere condolences to the individual’s loved ones and our continued best wishes to the others currently battling this terrible virus.
LaRose continued to state “these unfortunate losses reflect the challenges being faced across our province’s long-term care community and underscores the importance of working in partnership with our area residences to support optimal infection prevention practises and enhanced testing for staff and residents as we strive together to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
While the total number of positive cases is now at 41, there are 17 active cases as 20 people have recovered.
There is one person in the hospital in the ICU because of the virus.
The number of probable cases sits at 215.
To date, there have been 2,544 people tested for the virus and 2,253 of those testing negative. The rate of contraction for COVID-19 in HPE is 1.8%.
In the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge region here are 157 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 13 of those cases in Northumberland County.
