While there are no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our area today, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health says there has been one more death due to the virus, bringing the total to three.
Health Unit Spokesperson Karen LaRose confirmed to Quinte News that the person was a resident of a local long term care facility, who had previously tested positive for the virus and died of complications from that.
She says no other information will be released in the interest of privacy and that HPE Public Health is offering “heartfelt sympathies to the individual’s family, friends and caregivers following their unfortunate loss.”
LaRose went on to say that enhanced testing measures for all staff and residents at local LTC homes continues.
While there has been a total of 39 positive tests to date, the total number of active cases in the region is 17, since 19 people have also recovered from the virus.
Of those 17 active cases, the health unit says two people are in hospital, with one of them in the ICU.
There are also five new probable cases today, but two others have had their tests come back as negative, so that leaves the total number of probable cases at 215.
The health unit says as of 11:00 this morning 2,340 people have been tested, with 2,038 negative results and 263 cases pending.
That leaves the region with a 1.9% positive case rate, well below the national rate of 7%.
