On April 28, 2020 around 10:48 AM a member of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling highway 401 in the Brighton area.
The officer observed a motor vehicle suddenly depart the marked lanes of travel, in an unsafe manner, travelling onto the grass ditch portion of the highway.
The vehicle returned to highway and continued driving.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered two occupants in the vehicle.
The officer suspected that the driver was impaired by drugs. It was further determined that the vehicle had been stolen.
Accused Leslie DENTELBECK (age 27) of Quinte West was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Obstruct peace officer
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Fail to comply with recognizance
- Fail to comply with recognizance
The accused is in police custody awaiting a bail hearing to take place on April 29, 2020.
Accused Gavin GALBRAITH (age 23) of Quinte West was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on the July 9, 2020.
