During his weekly Facebook update, Dr. Piotr Oglaza says with local assessment centres up and running, it’s giving more reach of testing in the community and providing a better picture of what’s happening.
He says while they will continue to test people who have worsening COVID-19 symptoms, the priority right now is to test residents and workers in long term care facilities, to make sure outbreaks at those places can be contained, or stopped altogether.
Oglaza was also asked about the possibility of lifting restrictions moving forward, with some outbreak forecasts saying we’re past the peak.
He says any local decisions will be made based on what’s decided at Queen’s Park.
Oglaza also discussed the health unit’s newly released COVID-19 Dashboard which is providing more information on how the novel coronavirus is impacting people in the region.
