The COVID-19 Assessment centre in Belleville has been busy testing people since it opened just over two weeks ago.
The centre, located at the former Quinte Secondary school, is in partnership with Quinte Health Care, public health and the city.
Vice President of Quinte Health Care Jeff Hohenkerk tells Quinte News the centre had 228 calls over the past two weeks in which the patient would be screened by a nurse.
Of those, 114 people were asked to attend the centre and 107 were actually tested.
The centre is working seven days a week, open during the hours of 9 to 5 p.m.
Hohenkerk says, “Although the numbers seem quite low, what it is seeing is that most people are calling for more information. We are actually educating people in terms of staying home and self-isolating.”
Hohenkerk’s advice for the public is to continue practicing the public health measures.
There are other areas with COVID-19 assessment centres that are led by the family health teams and municipal partners.
One has already been set up in Picton and another one is being planned in Bancroft.
These are led and operated by the Family Health Teams in partnership with Quinte Health Care.
The one in Belleville is operated by Quinte Health Care.
