This past weekend three more cases of COVID-19 were discovered at Hastings Manor in Belleville.
Karen La Rose of the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit says they tested every resident and all staff at the facility.
La Rose told Quinte News the vast majority of those tests have come back.
She says they will continue to do ongoing testing at Hastings Manor to monitor the outbreak. If the tests come back negative, testing will be done for those displaying symptoms and staff will continue to be screened. If the tests come back positive, there will be more rigorous testing done and more distancing of patients.
Prior to the three new cases on the weekend, there were nine staff and residents who had tested positive and one person in hospital.
The Health Unit sent a release Sunday stating they will be taking the following steps if an outbreak of the virus is declared in any local long-term care or retirement facility:
- Test any resident with symptoms
- Test close contacts of any positive cases – even if asymptomatic
- Consider testing of all residents in floor/wing/living areas – if appropriate
- Consider facility-wide testing – if appropriate
The outbreak at Hallowell House in Picton has been declared over as the one positive case has since been resolved.
