A Belleville native, who lives minutes from where a gunman was killed in Nova Scotia, says the community and the entire province are in shock.
Thirty-eight-year-old Shane Ross is a Centennial Secondary school grad, and splits his time between Foxboro and Enfield, Nova Scotia, where 51-year old Gabriel Wortman was shot by RCMP in a standoff on Sunday.
Wortman started in Portapique, where several people were killed and a home set on fire. From there he went to Truro and Shubenacadie, ending with a police shootout in Enfield. These are all towns along Highway 102, within one hour of each other.
Ross says many of the people Wortman killed were from small tight-knit communities.
Ross says some of the victims were focused targets, while others the shooter killed randomly.
Ross says you do not hear of these things happening in Canada.

Police in Nova Scotia are trying to determine why a denturist described as nice, quiet and gentle dressed up like a cop and murdered at least 16 people.
One of the victims was RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson.
The only other to be named so far was elementary school teacher Lisa McCully.
Fifty-one-year-old Gabriel Wortman was killed after police intercepted him at a gas station in Enfield and the province’s police watchdog agency is now investigating his death.
As police examine multiple crime scenes, they say some of the killings appear to be completely random.
