Prince Edward County OPP are reminding the public to remain aware and educated when it comes to scams.
Police say scammers are continuing to exploit people during this COVID-19 crisis.
Officers say a number of common scams have resurfaced in addition to new techniques.
They want people to know legitimate agencies will never pressure you for information over the phone or demand money immediately.
A few tips to remember:
- The Canada Revenue Agency will not ask for bitcoin or gift cards
- The Government will not text you regarding the Canada Emergency Benefit
- Keep your personal information safe
- Update passwords regularly
- Question credentials of any unsolicited sales calls
- If you did not initiate the communication, you do not know who you are talking to
