Now, the City of Quinte West says a plan has been developed to not only help employees transition through this but to also sell the property.
Quinte Economic Development Commission Executive Director Chris King says Sonoco officials have agreed to work with the city and the QEDC to sell the property and any remaining assets to a non-paper-related user.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrision says the city, the QEDC and Sonoco Human Resources will be working with the 106 employees to support them through this transition.
Sonoco says market conditions and current circumstances led to the decision to close the paperboard plant on June 12.
