Recently Belleville police have had an increase in the number of reports of an email scam that appears to be circulating throughout the area. The victim will receive an email from an unknown source.
The unknown source will provide the correct password to the victim’s email account. The unknown source will then claim that they will release compromising videos or information of the victim to their internet contacts if an untraceable payment isn’t made within a certain timeline.
It is recommended that anyone receiving this type of email immediately change their passwords for that email account along with any other social media or internet accounts with the same password. The compromising information does not exist and no payments should be transferred.
