Dr. Piotr Oglaza held his third Facebook live event this morning (Thursday) and he explained the change in the number of probable cases in Hastings Prince Edward.
As of this morning, there are no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the number of probable cases dropped to 275.
Oglaza also made a suggestion ahead of the long weekend.
He says he understands it is a challenge but it is a necessary measure to help prevent the spread of the virus.
The Medical Officer of Health for Hastings Prince Edward Public Health also recommended people stay on their property to get their exercise as there is the possibility that physical distancing can’t be maintained if out for a walk. He said there is no prohibition against walks, but recommended staying active in a way that you don’t expose yourself to others.
Oglaza spoke about the recent change in directives from Dr. Theresa Tam, who said people can wear non-medical masks.
He says it is an additional measure that could be used to protect others as it will help contain secretions and provide an additional barrier to help stop the spread.
Oglaza says we are at a critical juncture.
He says he has also had an issue ordered which applies to anyone diagnosed as positive or showing signs and symptoms that they must self-isolate and that self-isolation is supported by a legal order to remain in their home and on their property with no visitors, in an effort to slow down and prevent the spread of the virus.
There has still only been one death related to COVID-19 in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
