Hastings County administration and the union representing around a dozen childcare workers have settled a spat over the workers being laid off.
Hastings County CAO Jim Pine says that the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) signed an agreement Tuesday giving the workers, who provide before and after school programs, one month of pay before being laid off.
Last Friday the union had rejected the same offer saying it held employees at ransom.
The employees have been without work since schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic March 17.
County management could have laid off the employees immediately, as have many employers.
The employees, like any others losing income due to the pandemic, will be free to apply for financial support from the federal government.
