The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has released a letter from Director of Education David DeSantis, as we head towards the major Catholic holiday of Easter:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, please remember that all staff at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board are thinking of you. We hope that you andyour families are well. As our Catholic school communities come together in unprecedented ways, we hope to continue to provide support to you and your family to the best of our abilities.
As you are aware, Premier Doug Ford has announced the extension of school closures until May 4, 2020. As a result, ALCDSB staff have been working diligently to find ways to support our students and families from home.
The Premier also announced the launch of the second phase of Learn at Home, which establishes clarity for parents/guardians, enhances education supports and creates opportunities for teachers and educators to connect with students.
This week, ALCDSB educators will be reaching out to students to commence educator-led learning through email, D2L, Fresh Grade and other methods. Please ensure that you and your child are checking these platforms. Support in accessing these platforms can be found at: ALCDSB Platform Support.
In line with the Ministry plans, we have created the ALCDSB Academic and Well-Being Plan: Educator Led Emergency Remote Learning. Details of this plan can be found here: ALCDSB Academic and Well-Being Plan.
If your child does not have access to a technology device, please know that we are working on this and members of our team will be using data from our technology questionnaire and other feedback from schools to assess this issue.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we embark on this journey together. We remain committed to working with public health partners, the Ministry of Education and community agency partners to ensure that all families within ALCDSB have the academic resources, mental health supports and community needs during this difficult time.
I am committed to keeping parents/guardians, students, and staff informed to the best of my ability as this situation continues to unfold. I will continue to provide updates and information viaSchoolMessenger phone calls every Friday.
Have a blessed Easter
Sincerely,
David DeSantis
Director of Education
