Firefighters from Bayside and Batawa fought a house fire at 45 Jeffrey Drive in Bayside last night (Monday).
The call came in at 7:20 after flames started in the basement of the house.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says that sadly two cats lost their lives in the fire and the home’s owner suffered minor smoke inhalation trying to save them.
There were no other injuries.
The cause is considered accidental but is under investigation. About $80,000 damage was done to the house.
