The closure of the City of Belleville’s parks and outdoor recreational amenities is mandatory in alignment with the Ontario Government’s emergency order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to close all outdoor recreational amenities. These closures will remain in place until further notice.
This order closes all communal or shared, public or private, outdoor recreational amenities everywhere in Ontario. The public is asked to respect these changes. Signage has been posted throughout the City indicating the closures. City bylaw officers are working in cooperation with Belleville Police Service to ensure the rules are being followed and will issue fines or more severe penalties to anyone not doing so.
“We, as Belleville residents, need to work together and follow these directives,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “The waterfront trails remain open at this time, providing the opportunity to be outdoors and get some exercise, but you need to respect the signage along the trails and ensure you maintain physical distancing. We understand the importance of being outdoors and exercising for both your physical and mental well-being but it is essential you do so safely. When you fail to do so, you put not only yourself at risk, but you are jeopardizing your family, your friends and the community as a whole. Our bylaw officers and Belleville Police Service are enforcing these closures but please don’t make it necessary for them to issue fines or additional penalties. We’re counting on you to understand the importance of these actions, follow these restrictions and whenever possible, stay at home.”
Boat launches at Herchimer Avenue and George Street remain open at this time.
