Volunteers with Quinte Search and Rescue may be looking at another quiet year on the water but are ready once again to provide help to people who face troubles on local waters.
QSAR launched both of their vessels on Saturday for a boating season that may be compromised again by high water levels and certainly affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
The 29-foot Bruce A. Sutcliff and the 20-foot Stu Meeks will be ready at Meyers Pier at all times to assist mariners in distress between the eastern end of the Murray Canal and Napanee.
With many boat launches and marinas affected by the novel coronavirus restrictions it’s expected the boating season will get off to, at best, a slow start.
Boaters should be aware they’ll likely have less company on the water this year making it even more important they have all the safety equipment they might need. Early launchers are reminded there could be dangers caused by items floating downstream from the Trent and Moira Rivers or items that float away from the shoreline, said Unit Commander Paul Kerwin.
