Dr. Piotr Oglaza held his second Facebook live session today where he gave an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it is affecting Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
He says the key change is there are now lab-confirmed cases of community spread of the virus.
Oglaza said there are hundreds of tests being completed daily with results coming back in two to five days.
He confirmed there are 17 cases of the virus in the region and one death.
Oglaza also repeated the measures people need to take such as washing their hands with soap and water, only leaving home for essential trips and stay two metres from others.
He recommended when going for groceries, wash your hands as soon as you return home, unpack your groceries and then wash your hands again.
Oglaza also spoke about the situation at long-term care facilities and the measures being taken to protect the most vulnerable.
He says a new development is that an outbreak will be declared if a resident or employee tests positive for COVID-19 which is designed to raise awareness and in order to implement measures to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Oglaza will hold another Facebook live event next week, date and time to be determined.
