One of the busiest goaltenders in the Ontario Hockey League over the last 3 seasons is moving on to the university ranks.
And a lot closer to home.
20 year old Belleville native Anthony Popovich has committed to Queens University where he will join the Golden Gaels in the fall.
Popovich played 4 seasons in the OHL, the first 3 with the Guelph Storm where he backstopped them to the league championship a year ago.
The former Quinte Red Devil played his overage season with the Flint Firebirds posting a 3.63 average and .896% in 47 games.
Over his last 3 seasons Popovich appeared in 159 regular season games with over 9000 minutes played.
Popovich will enter the Arts program at Queens although he will leave the door open to a professional tryout.
He attended the rookie camp of the Dallas Stars in the past.
Grimes top GOJHL Rookie goalie
Belleville native Dixon Grimes has received the Rookie All Star Team Goaltender award from the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
The 16 year old Grimes is the son of longtime Belleville Bulls assistant coach Jake Grimes and Loyalist College teacher Kim Grimes.
He played 27 games for the Junior “B” Listowell Cyclones posting a 2.15 goals against average with a .917%.
Grimes was a Quinte Red Devil until relocating with his Family two years ago.
