The County of Prince Edward will defer the June and September property tax due dates by 90 days to help ease the economic impact of COVID-19.
This deferral until later in the year is to help provide cash flow relief for County residents over the next few months.
The tax instalment due dates of June 15 and September 15 have been deferred to September 15 and November 16, respectively. The municipality will mail out tax bill notices in August.
The municipality has deferred property tax due dates for payments made directly to the County of Prince Edward. Property owners who pay their taxes through their mortgage should contact their mortgage company to determine if an adjustment can be made to their mortgage payment.
In addition to the tax payment deferral, the County will not register tax arrears certificates on properties in 2020.
Utilities support extended through remainder of 2020
The County is not deferring water and wastewater bills in order to ensure the municipality has the financial means to operate the systems. However, penalty and interest will not be charged on water and wastewater bills for the remainder of 2020. The municipality will not be disconnecting water and wastewater users for non-payment in 2020.

The Government of Ontario issued an emergency order whereby residential and small business customers on time-of-use (TOU) pricing will pay 10.1 ¢/kWh no matter what time of day the electricity is consumed.
According to the Government of Canada, the large banks have confirmed that support will include up to a six-month payment deferral for mortgages, and the opportunity for relief on other credit products. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and other mortgage insurers offer tools to lenders that can assist homeowners who may be experiencing financial difficulty. Homeowners can defer mortgage payments on homeowner CMHC-insured mortgage loans. CMHC will permit lenders to allow payment deferral beginning immediately.
The federal government has introduced a number of temporary income supports for workers and parents. The federal government has extended the income tax filing deadline to June 1 for individuals and corporations. Learn more on the Government of Canada website.
