The province announced some new rules and regulations in regards to COVID-19 on Saturday.
Ontario’s Progressive Conservative government is looking to slow the spread of the virus by restricting the maximum size of gatherings to five people.
As for smaller gatherings, Ford said there are some exceptions to the new rule, including at funerals.
Ford also announced stiff new measures to prevent price gouging for important products during the COVID-19 crisis.
Individuals found guilty of price gouging could face fines of $100,000, while company directors could face fines of $500,000 as well as a year in jail, and corporations may be fined as much as $10 million, said Ford.
The new rules went into effect on Saturday.
Necessary goods include:
- Masks and gloves used as personal protective equipment in relation to infections.
- Non-prescription medications for the treatment of the symptoms of the coronavirus.
- Disinfecting agents intended for cleaning and disinfecting objects or humans.
- Personal hygiene products, including soap products and paper products.
Ontario is also implementing a new emergency order to ensure that staffing and resources are available to help care for and protect long-term care residents during the COVID-19 crisis.
The temporary measures provide flexibility for long-term care homes and allow homes to redirect their staffing and financial resources to essential tasks.
