Registered nurses in Ontario are calling on the federal and provincial governments to ensure they are properly equipped to fight COVID-19.
The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario says health organizations are already reporting a shortage of surgical masks, with a potential explosion in demand coming due to the pandemic.
The RNAO says governments must ensure the health sector has an ample supply of personal protection devices and increase the number of ventilators so patient lives are not lost.
It says if Canada succeeds in avoiding the worst-case scenario, other jurisdictions will gladly repurchase the equipment.
