Recognizing that the COVID-19 experience is likely to hit hungry and precariously-housed individuals and families especially hard, several community organizations have stepped up to support those with need of a hot, nutritious lunch.
Starting Friday, March 27, 2020, a free ‘take away’ lunch will be served every day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bridge Street United Church, 60 Bridge Street East, compliments of Bridge Street United Church, the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health, and the Community Development Council of Quinte. Lunch includes soup, sandwich, fresh fruit, and a snack.
Sandie Sidsworth, Executive Director of the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health, recognizes the camaraderie and cooperation required to make this meal happen: “We are so pleased that we can work with the CDC and assist Bridge Street United Church with this process – partnerships are vital at this time to ensure we can care for as many people as possible.”
Rev. David King, Bridge Street Church’s Lead Minister notes the congregation is committed to be a good neighbour in whatever way it can. “I’m delighted with the impetus and approach that’s being taken. We truly are all in this together!”
“CDC Quinte has always been committed to doing what we can, when we can, how we can in our community, remarked Ruth Ingersoll, Executive Director of the Community Development Council of Quinte. “Working together to provide daily lunches builds on existing partnerships to help the community.”
In addition to the daily lunch at Bridge Street Church, coffee and a sandwich are available at Gleaners Community Food Bank from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday to Friday, and a takeout dinner is served seven days a week from 4 – 5:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army on Pinnacle Street.
