The County of Prince Edward is introducing additional measures to limit the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
“We are continually evaluating our operations and taking specific measures to ensure public safety,” says Mayor Steve Ferguson. “The residents of Prince Edward County rely on the municipality for essential services like clean drinking water, wastewater treatment, garbage and recycling collection, and fire protection. I want to reassure everyone we will continue to deliver those services in a safe and responsible manner.”
As of March 18, municipal offices on the second floor of the Edward Building are closed, as staff working in that building have been given alternative work locations to support social distancing. Shire Hall remains open at this time with limited access between 9 am and 3 pm as the municipality focuses on maintaining its core services. Enhanced cleaning protocols and crowd management practices have been put in place at Shire Hall to protect the public and staff.
The municipality stresses that residents should go online to pay bills and complete other municipally-related activities. The public is strongly advised not to enter Shire Hall if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or have recently returned from travelling outside of Canada.
There are no changes to garbage and recycling collection, and landfills and transfer sites remain open at this time.
Protecting County staff is a priority and additional measures to ensure social distancing have been put in place. Those include working from home, moving to alternate locations, and enhancing protocols for frontline staff dealing with the public.

The municipality reminds people that the best way to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses such as COVID-19 is to:
- Avoid all close contact with people unless necessary
- Never shake hands
- Cancel/avoid all travel
