The Belleville Police Service responded to 57 calls for service between March 1, 2020 at 5 a.m. and March 2, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Shoplifting charge
On March 1, 2020, at 11:51 a.m., police attended at the Canadian Tire Store in Belleville in relation to a shoplifter who had been arrested by store security. The investigation revealed that 43-year-old Durr-E-Najaf Ali of Quinte West had left the store without paying for several items. She was charged with theft under $5000 and released with a court date of March 26, 2020.
Traffic Enforcement
On March 1, 2020, at 9:00 p.m., an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on College Street West. The driver, a 51-year-old man, was charged with failing to surrender a driver’s licence, driving with an expired valtag sticker, and driving without valid insurance. He will appear in Traffic Court on March 30, 2020. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
Disturbance
On March 2, 2020, at 1:40 a.m., police attended at an apartment building on Albion Street regarding a disturbance. Several persons were separated and sent to their respective units. Prior to the officers’ departure, one of the involved parties emerged from her apartment and was confronting another tenant. The 29-year-old Belleville woman was arrested for causing a disturbance. There were no reported injuries.
Arrested on warrants
On March 2, 2020, at 2:31 a.m., an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on West Moira Street on a vehicle that was displaying a 2017 valtag sticker. The officer recognized a passenger in the car who was wanted by the Belleville Police Service on several outstanding warrants. Thirty-eight-year-old Travis Richard Todhunter of no fixed address was held for a bail hearing on March 2, 2020. His charges include failing to abide by conditions of a release order. There was also a committal warrant from Traffic Court for 45 days in jail. The driver of the car was issued a provincial notice for notice for driving with an expired valtag sticker.
