A 39-year-old Belleville man was arrested Saturday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. after police were called to a report of an assault on a woman.
Police arrived at the east end residence and investigated before arresting the man on counts of spousal assault and breaching conditions of a recognizance from a release earlier this year regarding the same woman.
Police are not releasing the name of the man in order to protect the identity of the victim, who suffered minor injuries.
The man was taken to police headquarters, where he is being held for a show-cause hearing.
