There will be more options for public transit in Prince Edward County.
The municipality has announced they have partnered with Quinte Access to offer enhanced public transit throughout the County.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says addressing the barrier that contributes to social isolation and impacts access to employment, food and other essential services is vital to the community.
Quinte Access will now provide fixed route and flex route transit services. The agency will also continue to deliver specialized transit services to seniors and people with disabilities.
The municipality will receive $466,025 in provincial funding through the Ministry of Transportation’s Community Transportation Grant program over the next three years to support public transit.
The Women’s Institute of Prince Edward County, one of the pioneers of public transit in the municipality, has pledged $5,000 for specialized transit in 2020. Over the past 30 years, the community organization has donated $120,000 in total to advance accessible transit in Prince Edward County.
The new public transit services will begin operating on March 31, 2020.
Bus and route information will be posted on the Quinte Access website.
