With some cooperation from mother nature, Williams says this could be a long maple season.
Maple in the County is not only the first harvest of the year, but it’s also the unofficial start of the tourism season.
Mayor of Prince Edward County, Steve Ferguson says the festivities attract thousands of tourists to the County.
This year there will be 13 producers gearing up at the sugar bushes.
Each producer will tap between 500 and 8,000 bushes.
The hosts include: Sweetwater Cabin/Hubbs Sugarbush, Fosterholm Farms, Vader’s Maple Syrup, Nyman Farms, Sugarbush Vineyards, Waupoos Estate Winery and Sugarbush, Walt’s Sugar Shack, Strictly Maple, Three Dog Winery, Roblin’s Maple Syrup, Justin’s Maple Syrup and LOHA Farms.
There is also a new host added to the roster this year. Andrew Foster and the Foster family of County Shores in Northport will join the festivities.
Foster says it’s nice to be included.
Maple in the County will run March 28-29.
Events include: barbecues, pancake breakfasts, petting zoos, walking trails, live music, tractor rides and everything maple syrup. In addition, there will be free public skating in the County.
