The Mayor of Quinte West is happy with a court ruling against the owner of a marijuana growing operation that was built without a building permit in the city last summer.
In Provincial Offences Court yesterday (Monday) the owner of the grow-op which features multiple “hoop buildings” and is located on Hamilton Road near Aikins Road was found guilty on dozens of counts and fined a total of $17,500.
Mayor Jim Harrison says everyone else needs to go through a public planning process in order to get a building permit and he’s glad the city took the grow-op to court.
“Now they’ve got 6 months to get this rezoning, the site plan agreement, the building permits in place.”
Harrison says he hopes the public gets involved and comments that when the grow-op applies for rezoning, he doesn’t believe Quinte West needs such a facility.
Meanwhile, the city is taking another marijuana growing operation to court in April, also because the planning/building permit process was ignored. That facility is on Aikins Road.
