On your mark !!! Get SET !!!!!! SOUP !!!!!!
An ideal February Saturday brought crowds four deep to Downtown District sidewalks in Belleville in what likely the busiest Savour the Chill soup tasting event in its 17 years.
Restaurants throughout the downtown offered up hot savoury soups and well over a thousand people had their taste buds primed and ready.
The Belleville Downtown Business Improvement Area had advertised that the steaming soups would be doled out, at a token $2 a sample starting at noon sharp.
Soup lovers were already lined up at 11:30. In the midday, lines of 60 or more people outside the eateries was common.
The event came hot on the heels of the “Enchanted” Holiday Night Market in early December. That event also drew thousands into the Downtown District.
Meanwhile, the Belleville Chamber of Commerce provided family entertainment of various kinds along with arts and crafts inside the Armouries in a companion event called Savour the Chill and Stay Awhile.
