A Belleville police officer has been cleared of any criminal charges by the Special Investigations Unit.
Director Joseph Martino states in his report there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against the officer in relation to a serious injury sustained by a man last August.
According to the report, Belleville Police were called to a home in the city around 1:30 in the morning of August 6, 2019 to deal with a domestic incident.
The suspect was very intoxicated states the report and was belligerent and combative leading to their arrest for public intoxication.
The 38 year-old resisted arrest and was taken to the ground by the officers before being taken to the police station.
While in custody, the man complained of pain to his shoulder.
Officers took the man to Belleville General Hospital around 3:45 a.m. and it was determined by x-rays, he had a fractured humerus bone.
Martino states he believes the use of force fell within the range of what was reasonably necessary to arrest the suspect.
