Foley Bus Lines- Minor Midget (U16)
In a series that needed all five games, the Foley Bus Lines Minor Midget Devils managed to take the clinching game five at home this past Sunday to move past the Barrie Colts and into the OMHA semi-finals. Game one versus the Colts was to begin in Quinte but mother nature had her say and moved the start to Barrie where the Devils came out a bit sluggish after their first round bye week.
Fortunately, the Devils finally got one late in first before adding another before the buzzer taking a two goal lead into the second period. The second came up blanks and the Devils added two late in the third to take the opener on the road 4-0. Game two had the Devils right back at it the next day after a late return from Barrie the night before. Although the Devils were able to get out to a couple leads in the game, it was all gone with the blink of an eye as the Colts scored with nine seconds left in regulation to tie the contest and then twenty-four seconds in to overtime to take the game with a 5-4 final.
With the weather cancelled game prior, the Devils found themselves back at home for a mid-week game three where the 04’s filled the net with three in the second before adding an empty netter to take the contest 4-0 and putting themselves up four points to two in the six point series. This past Saturday, the Devils hit the road to Barrie again looking to close out the series in game four, but the Colts wanted no part of that as they poured in three power play goals plus another and an empty netter to take the game with a 5-1 final pushing the series to the brink back in Quinte for Sunday.
With another late night disappointing drive in the snow from Barrie, the Devils could have come out flat Sunday but a pre-game line juggle due to an unfortunate injury had the boys flying as they jumped out to a five to one lead by the middle of the second before cruising to a 7-4 triumph and the series win.
Next action……The Devils take on the always tough Oshawa Generals in the OMHA semi-finals in another six point series. Fortunately, the Minor Midget Devils host the OMHA Championships March 6-8th in Belleville at the QSWC but want to go in hot with a series win versus the Generals.
