The Wellington Dukes weren’t out of first place in the OJHL East very long. One day after Trenton leapfrogged ahead of them the Dukes bounced back on top with a 7-2 rout of the Cobourg Cougars.
Jacob Vreugdenhil and Brett Humberstone scored twice.
Wellington led 2-0 after the first and never looked back. Brodie McDougall, Dylan Massie and Dawson Ellis also scored. Wellington outshot Cobourg 42-24. Matthew Dunsmoor gets the win in goal.
The Dukes have 84 points. The Golden Hawks have 83 and they meet Friday night in Trenton. It’s the final game of the regular season for the G-Hawks while Wellington has two games remaining.
Napanee hosts wild card game
.The Napanee Raiders won’t have to go far to scout their first round opponent in the Provincial Junior “C” Hockey League playoffs.
The Gananoque Islanders play the Port Hope Panthers in a one game playoff at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee tonight at 8:45. Gananoque and Port Hope tied for fourth place. The game has to be played at a neutral site. The winner plays the first place Raiders in round one.
The Picton Pirates have home ice advantage in their opening round series with Amherstview.
