CN freight and VIA Rail passenger trains continue to sit idle in much of the country as First Nations protests continue, including near the CN tracks in Tyendinaga.
However, there could be progress made on the issues after a meeting today (Saturday) on the scene of the rail blockade.
The federal Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller has asked for and will receive a meeting with the Tyendinaga Mohawk protesters around 10 o’clock this morning.
The meeting is being termed a “Polish the Silver Covenant Chain” which was one of the original agreements between the Crown and the Mohawk Nation.
The local protest is in support of a northwest BC First Nation which does not want a natural gas pipeline built on their land.
The Tyendinaga protest is now into its tenth day.
