Charges have been laid and blue carfentanyl was seized following a traffic stop in the city yesterday.
Belleville Police say members of their Intelligence and Street Crime Units began receiving information earlier this month a Toronto area man was selling fentanyl in the city and began an investigation.
On Tuesday, police conducted a traffic stop on the southbound 401 exit ramp at Hwy. 62 and a 55-year-old man from Markham was arrested.
James Sinclair was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, proceeds of crime, resisting arrest and obstructing police.
Officers seized 14 grams of blue carfentanyl, $200 in Canadian currency, digital scales, drug paraphernalia and a cell phone. The street value of the drugs is $2,800.
Sinclair will appear in Belleville court today for a bail hearing.
The investigation was in conjunction with the OPP east Region Organized Crime Bureau.
