The Tyendinaga Mohawk Council has released a statement regarding the protests happening nation-wide and affecting rail service locally.
The Council says they are disappointed in the recent events regarding the Wet’suwet’en people and the RCMP and are asking both the federal and provincial governments to demand the RCMP reconsider how it addresses peaceful protests and demonstrations.
The Tyendinaga Mohawk Council says they did not prompt the current protest at Wyman Road, but they do encourage people to ‘use their voices and good minds to bring awareness to matters affecting Indigenous people’.
The Council states they hope all sides involved find a peaceful resolution to the issues they are dealing with.
