The Provincial Government is making some changes to post-secondary nursing programs that will impact the healthcare sector and Loyalist College specifically.
The government has announced that colleges can now deliver stand-alone nursing degree programs, instead of having to partner with a university, for students to finish their studies.
The move is intended to help more students graduate into the nursing field faster and therefore provide more care for residents across the province.
Loyalist College President and CEO Dr. Anne Marie Vaughan says the change will also positively benefit residents in the Quinte Region, since currently fewer than 5% of Loyalist’s nursing grads come back to the area, after going elsewhere to complete their degrees.
The college also recently unveiled its updated nursing and healthcare labs on the third floor of the Kente Building, which went through a multi-million dollar overhaul with support from both the provincial and federal governments.
