The power was knocked out last night in Belleville’s northwest end.
A vehicle drove into a hydro pole on Sidney Street Friday night around 7:15 p.m. knocking out the power in the area and leaving thousands of west end residents in the dark.
Belleville Police responded to the incident along with city hydro crews and the Belleville Fire Department.
Sidney Street was shut down between Moira Street West and Wilson Street due to the electrical hazards.
Hydro crews were able to restore power to residents at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning and Sidney Street was reopened at 2 a.m.
A 54-year-old Toronto driver was involved in the collision and did not sustain any injuries however the vehicle was severely damaged.
The man was charged with careless driving.
