The unemployment rate in this part of Ontario was lower last month matching the national and provincial stats.
In the Kingston-Pembroke economic region, which the Quinte region is a part of, the unemployment rate in January was 5.6%, down slightly from 5.7% in December.
The national unemployment rate in January was 5.5%, down from 5.6% while Ontario’s rate was 5.2% which was down from 5.3% in December.
Nationally 34,500 jobs were added last month while in Ontario 16,000 new positions came online.
In the past year Ontario has been a strong jobs producer with 78% of all new jobs in Canada occurring in the province.
