The Director of Education for the Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board addressed the ongoing teacher labour disruptions on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show this morning.
In a wide-ranging interview, Sean Monteith noted that it’s a difficult situation for parents and school board officials, especially with how much time students are spending outside the classroom as negotiations with the province drag on.
Monteith says despite how long the job action has been going, he doesn’t think students’ school years will be affected on a broader scale.
As far as solutions to some of the issues being brought up, Monteith says one way to address the issue of paying for more classroom supports would be to change the way those types of positions and programs are funded.
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board teachers will hold another one day strike on Monday, then will hit the picket line again on Tuesday as part of a province-wide walk out.
