CFB Trenton is a beehive of activity Thursday, as service women and men prepare for the arrival of hundreds from Wuhan China, the epicentre of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The lodgings are set, inspection areas are ready, and now all that is needed is the repatriation of Canadians.
Hangar 7 at the base sees numerous government, health, and military agencies.
Included in that are the Red Cross, Emergency Management Assistance Team, military personnel, Hastings Quinte EMS, quarantine officials, and more. There is a federal microbiology lab on site, a hypafiltration system, and the Public Health Agency of Canada among others.
As soon as the plane lands in Trenton, officials will go into the plane and check on the status of the passengers. If anyone is feeling unwell, protocols are put in place. Front line staff will be wearing protective equipment to keep safe.
More than 200 Canadians will be at the base, along with health officials, pilots and all those on the plane chartered by the federal government.
Throughout their stay they will be monitored for signs and symptoms of the virus. If someone is showing symptoms, they may be taken to Trenton Memorial or Belleville General Hospital.
Health officials say they want to keep people on base for two weeks. A mobile support health unit will also be at the site.
