Prince Edward County council will likely be upgrading all the streetlights in the county to LED lighting to save on energy consumption and costs.
Today (Thursday) council’s Committee of the Whole voted to recommend council approve an $878,000 tender from the company RealTerm Energy to convert the county’s 1,515 streetlights to LED.
The company estimates the county would save $1.7 million in energy costs over a 10 year period.
The lights would feature the latest technology to allow dimming and monitoring for fixture failures.
Council has asked for a staff report on how long the term should be to pay off a loan to pay for the project.
