The Belleville Senators won the special teams war last night and with it the game.
Rudolfs Balcers scored twice while Joey Daccord stopped 25 shots to backstop the B-Sens over the Toronto Marlies 3-1. Captain Jordan Szwarz, who has just returned from a lengthy injury scored the winner short handed mid way in the second period. It was the 12th of the year for Szwarz, four of which have come while killing penalties. Belleville won one for two on the power play and five for five on the kill. Belleville is tied for the league lead in short handed goal with 14.
Szwarz says they were well prepared.
Belleville carried a 3-1 lead into the third period and Szwarz says they did a good job protecting it.
Shots on goal were 26 aside.
The B-Sens have won 5 in a row to extend their lead in the AHL North to 6 points.
These teams meet again Friday night at CAA Arena. Laval is here on Saturday when the Senators celebrate their 100th home game.
