While most others were enjoying Super Bowl Sunday, Tweed and Belleville firefighters were busy fighting a stubborn house fire in the Municipality of Tweed.
Flames broke out in the older two-storey brick farmhouse at 765 Sulphide Road early in the afternoon yesterday (Sunday).
Luckily people inside the house escaped safely but the structure was destroyed in the fire which kept about 20 Tweed firefighters busy until 9:30 last night.
The Belleville Fire Department provided tanker support throughout the day. OPP and Hastings-Quinte paramedics were also on scene.
Tweed Fire Chief Derrick Little says about $400,000 damage was done and someone from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will be on scene this morning (Monday) to help in the investigation for a cause.
A GoFundMe page to help the family has been set up and you can make a donation by clicking here.
