Wellington– Make it two wins in as many nights for the Wellington Dukes.
On home ice Friday night the Dukes picked up a decisive 6-2 win over their division rival, the Cobourg Cougars.
Ben Evans made his presence felt early in his return to the lineup following a four-game suspension with a power-play marker in the first period.
Then, after the Cougars tied it up minutes later, Quinn Hanna’s seeing eye wrist shot from the blue-line pin-balled in off of Justin Paul.
Early in the second period Cobourg tied the game on the man advantage, then it was all Dukes from there on out.
Evans scored his second of the night on a sweet dish from Ben Addison. Just 30 seconds later Addison found the back of the net.
In the third period it was Brett Humberstone scoring on a one-timer from Brodie McDougall to make it 5-2. McDougall followed up on the assist by adding a marker of his own late in the third from Addison to close out the game.
Addison picked up a goal and three assists on the night. Evans had two goals, including the winner, and an assist, while McDougall tallied a goal and an assist.
In between the pipes, Matt Dunsmoor made 23 saves on 25 shots for his 18th win of the season.
The Dukes are off on Saturday, but will return to action Sunday afternoon at the Duke Dome against the Lindsay Muskies.
With the Golden Hawks win over the Fury Friday night, the Dukes remain three points back of Trenton in the East Division standings with three games in hand.
