An off-duty Lennox and Addington County (L&A) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer who observed and called in a traffic complaint on Highway 401 has led to drug and impaired charges for a Brockville area driver.
The off duty officer was on Highway 401 near Napanee on Thursday morning around 8:30 a.m. and observed a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner.
An L&A County OPP officer responded and the driver was stopped near Beechwood overpass on Highway 401 west.
As a result of an investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the Napanee detachment.
A drug recognition officer conducted a test and the driver was charged.
Edward Lane Kelly, aged 46 years, has been charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired – drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
The accused faces a 90-day administrative licence suspension and 7-day vehicle impoundment, in addition to a court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on February 11, 2020.
