It appears developers and others have heeded Belleville council’s call for more rental housing.
Or they’ve heeded the reality of the regional rental market.
In either case, the City of Belleville is well on its way to meeting council’s goal of adding 1,000 new rental units by the year 2025.
That goal was set by the new council not long ago and already there are 449 proposed or already built new rental units as of the end of 2019.
That works out to around 45% of the goal.
In a report by staff to the city’s Planning Advisory Committee it’s also revealed that the city has lots of land to meet provincial guidelines for residential development for the next 20 years.
Belleville has registered or draft plans of subdivisions or condominiums involving various types of housing including apartments that total 1,789 residential units.
