There is some good news for students at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute who are enrolled in French Immersion.
The Board of Trustees approved the decision to offer Extended French to students coming into Grade 9 at PECI for the 2020-2021 school year.
The decision was made during their Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday night to help offer some direction for parents, grade 8 students and staff ahead of the next school year.
While Extended French is not as intensive as French Immersion, it does offer more than Core French.
The number of students and the favourable response to continue to offer the Extended French did play a role in the board’s decision.
The Board noted they will review the long term viability and sustainability of the French as a Second Language program as part of a larger program review.
HPEDSB offers three types of French as a Second Language programs; Core French, Extended French and French Immersion.
