Belleville Police Service responded to 42 calls from January 25, 2020 at 5 a.m. to January 26, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Domestic assault
Shortly before midnight on January 25, 2020, police were called to a downtown licensed establishment for a disturbance call. Investigation revealed that a man and a woman were involved in a physical altercation during which the male struck the female in the head with a beer pitcher. The female received a minor cut to her head but refused any medical attention. The 24-year-old Belleville man was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service where he was released a short time later with a court date of February 10 to answer to the charge of assault with a weapon. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
