A lockdown is underway at Warkworth Institution and visits have been suspended until further notice.
The extra security measures were put in place around 10:00 last (Wednesday) night so staff could begin an extensive search of the medium security facility.
Assistant Regional Manager of Communications Kyle Lawlor says normal routines and visits will be reinstated once staff determine it is safe to do so.
